The Kansas City Lyra Chapter invites members to see harpist and vocalist Calvin Arsenia perform with Strange Claws, a live tribute to Florence + the Machine, at recordBar on September 12.
Arsenia will bring harp to the arrangements, placing the instrument within a full amplified ensemble of vocals, guitars, percussion, and other instruments. For harpists, the performance offers an opportunity to hear how the harp can function in a contemporary rock setting—supporting texture, harmony, rhythm, and atmosphere alongside a larger band.
Strange Claws features a collective of Kansas City musicians and special guests, including Arsenia, performing music from Florence + the Machine. Doors open at 7:00 PM, with music beginning at 8:00 PM.

Unwind with staff member Jim Mosher & his harping friends. Every year harpists from Kansas & Missouri come here for music, community & peace. Hear solos and ensembles, and join in a sing-along.
Staff member Jim Mosher will be joined by friends in the annual Harpists for Peace program. Always a joyful and relaxing time, we will perform solos, small ensembles and several pieces played by all in attendance.
Harpists from around the world wanted to encompass the earth in peaceful, relaxing music. Since the beginning of the event the harpists participating has expanded. Last year we had 12 harpists in Topeka for the afternoon. Who knows how many this time!

The Northland Symphony Orchestra, whose membership consists of professional, student and community musicians, offers high quality orchestral performances that are accessible and free of charge to the greater Kansas City area. Furthermore, we are committed to providing educational opportunities for local young musicians, which will instill in them an appreciation of the arts and a recognition of the arts’ importance within our diverse community.

The Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools Harp Ensemble presents its Fall Concert on Thursday, October 15 at Victory Hills Baptist Church.
The KCKPS harp program has been part of the region’s music-education community since 1988. Today, under the direction of Aimee DeSotel, harp remains part of KCKPS’s extended fine-arts programming, alongside orchestra, band, choir, jazz, mariachi, theatre, and dance. The district’s current calendar includes dedicated Harp Ensemble rehearsals and audition sessions at Eisenhower Middle School.
The Kansas City Lyra Chapter is a proud supporter of the KCKPS Harp Ensemble. The concert offers an opportunity to hear the next generation of local harpists performing together and to see one of the area’s longstanding public-school harp programs in practice.
